Good Books

1.  Goddess: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn MonroeBy Anthony Summers

Even if you were never a die hard Marilyn Monroe fan (I never really was) this is a good book.  I stumbled across it in a creepy old bookstore and since all the other books were crap I decided to get this one and was pleasantly surprised.  Summers seems to have done a lot of research and you really get to “know” the real Monroe.  She was a very complex and tragic individual, and I think everyone might know someone like her.

 2.  Walking Into the River by Lorian Hemingway

This book helped me survive high school.  I didn’t relate to the character or anything, but all her issues really helped me deal with mine.  This is a great story for any woman, and it’s written well too (not that I’m some big time editor, but come one- it’s by a Hemingway!).  You’ll cry, and cry, and fall in love with Eva, the main character.

3.  Desperation, by Stephen King

Okay, kind of generic, but I love Stephen King.  I really think he does an excellent job of TAKING you somewhere, I feel like I know what Maine is like even though I’ve never been there.

Desperation, unlike most of King’s novels, takes place somewhere other than Maine.  Desperation is about a town gone rotten in the middle of the desert.  So scary and so good.  It’s an easy read and you’ll get hooked by the second chapter.  Sickening imagery as well, so beware!
